Golden Nightmares

Golden Nightmares

If you listen to this song, Golden Dreams (by Maroufi) it has an interesting rythm: First, it start very slowly. It feels like the times one is sitting in a theater and is waiting for others to arrive, lights to go off and for the movie to start; boring, and unnecessary. Around after half a minute1 the tone changes, as if another hand takes over the piano keys.

For me it feels as if the piano is telling a story now. It is not a happy story, but is not told in an unhappy manner either. There are times in life that one knows that yeah… I’m done for, but such is life—very matter-of-fact way of looking at the ship sinking; taking all on board down with it.

Near the end2 there’s such a sudden, mesmerizing change of tone that surprises me everytime. It’s where everything falls apart, where it lets the subject of our story to breakdown: You’re just a human. And yes, it wasn’t fare yet it’s happening. And I can see that. I can see you. The unacknowledged is now acknowledged.

The rest of the song is just end credits rolling out. Yawning, stretching and impatiently waiting for your turn to get out of the theatre. I wonder why he has called it Golden Dreams. It certainly is one of my favorites, but not because there is anything dreamy about it, nor because it appears any golden.
